Rango Tenge Tenge was born on April 20, 2010 in Kamuli, Uganda to parents Francis and Martha Tenge. As the youngest of 7 children, Rango was surrounded by love from the start. The Tenge family lived off the land, working hard every day to survive throughsubsistence farming. It wasn’t an easy life, but they had each other.

Life in Kamuli was simple— folks knew their neighbors and looked out for one another. Kids spent days outside playing, exploring nature, and bonding together. For Rango, those carefree childhood years shaped who he is today. He developed a fun-loving, resilient spirit despite challenges. While others may have become discouraged, Rango stayed optimistic.

A Natural Performer

From a young age, it was clear Rango was a natural performer. He lights up any room with his beaming smile and vibrant energy. As a kid, Rango especially loved dancing. He’d practice local Ugandan dances for hours, perfecting every step. Family gatherings always involved Rango showing off the newest routine he learned.

School was also a joy for Rango. He excelled at his studies but moreso found his place amongst peers through talent shows and after school programs. Teachers saw Rango’s gift for connecting with others through dance and encouraged him to pursue his passion. While his peers planned more traditional careers, Rango dreamed of sharing Ugandan culture worldwide through performance.

A Chance Discovery

In 2023, everything changed for Rango when he discovered TikTok. His older brother Brian was obsessed with the app and constantly showing Rango the latest viral videos from around the globe. Fascinated, Rango begged Brian to let him try making his own clips. So in April 2023, Rango uploaded his first video—a traditional Ugandan dance.

To Rango’s surprise, the video took off locally. Fellow Ugandans loved seeing their culture represented authentically. Rango was hooked. He began posting regularly, experimenting with lip syncs, comedy sketches, and everything in between while staying true to his roots. Rango’s local following grew rapidly as his lighthearted personality shone through.

But it was one fateful video that change Rango’s life forever—a dance to “Dancing With A Stranger” he uploaded in September 2023 just for fun. Within days, the video had amassed over 1 million views as people everywhere connected to Rango’s joy and rhythm. He suddenly had an international fanbase! Rango was stunned by the positive feedback from corners of the globe he’d never imagined.

A Rising Star is Born

From that moment, Rango’s TikTok career skyrocketed. He devoted more time to creating engaging videos that represented Uganda’s rich heritage while relating to viewers globally. Brands also took notice of Rango’s authentic charm and sizable following. By early 2024, he had millions of fans and opportunities were knocking.

Everything came to a head when Ellen discovered Rango and invited him to appear on her show in February 2024. It was a dream come true for Rango to share his story and culture on such a massive platform. But Ellen also surprised Rango with plane tickets for his whole family to visit Disneyland—their first time flying! Rango was blown away by the experience and support from fans worldwide.

Since that pivotal moment, Rango has never looked back. He’s collaborated with huge names like Beyoncé, UNICEF, and graced the pages of TIME Magazine. At only 12 years old, Rango is now one of TikTok’s biggest stars with 10 million followers and counting. All because he stayed true to himself and shared his Ugandan joy with the world.

Staying Grounded

Amid growing fame, Rango has refused to change. Family and cultural roots remain central. He helps on the family farm in Kamuli and teaches traditional dance to village children. Rango also advocates strongly for important causes through his massive platform, raising hundreds of thousands for education programs.
