Early Life and Education
Frank Mba hails from the bustling city of Yenagoa in Bayelsa state, located in the oil-rich South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. He was born on October 9th, 1972 to the family of the late Chief Friday Mba and Mrs. Beatrice Mba. Frank was the second child and eldest son among his siblings.
Growing up in Yenagoa, Frank had a humble upbringing in a modest neighbourhood. He attended the Local Authority Primary School in Yenagoa for his basic education from 1978 to 1984. Even as a young boy, Frank displayed strong intellect and leadership skills. He consistently ranked among the best students in his class.
After completing primary school, Frank gained admission to prestigious Deeper Life High School in Port Harcourt, Rivers state in 1985 for his secondary education. It was during this time that he discovered his passion and aptitude for law. Beyond academic pursuits, Frank was actively involved in extra-curricular activities including debating, public speaking and sports. He served as the class representative on several occasions.
In 1991, Frank successfully graduated from high school with excellent results. He then proceeded to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Law. Due to his outstanding secondary school records and entry examination scores, Frank was admitted to study Law at the University of Calabar. He joined the university’s law program in 1991. Throughout his 5 years of study, Frank continued demonstrating strong discipline and dedication to his education. He obtained an LL.B in Law in 1996, graduating in the second class upper division.
However, Frank was ambitious to furtherenhance his knowledge and skills. In 2013, he enrolled for his master’s degree program at the prestigious University of Lagos. After a rigorous one-year study, Frank graduated with an LL.M in Maritime Law in 2014. He also undertook specialised professional training at the Police Staff College, Jos and other local and international institutions. The additional qualifications and training served to sharpen Frank’s expertise in various aspects of law and safety administration.
Joining the Nigeria Police Force
Even from a young age, Frank had immense respect for the police force and sense of duty to protect citizens and enforce law and order in the society. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, Frank was eager to utilize his skills and education to serve the public. In February 1992, he fulfilled his dream by enlisting in the prestigious Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent.
Frank’s 21-year career in the Nigeria Police Force has been exceptional. Through resilience, intelligence and commitment to excellence, he has consistently overcome myriad challenges to rise through the ranks. Some of Frank’s earlier roles in the police force included:
- Divisional Crime Officer in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State from 1996 to 1998 where he coordinated criminal investigations.

In this strategic role, Frank leveraged his expertise in budgeting, accounting procedures and internal controls to strengthen transparency and accountability within the police force. In August 2019, Frank attained another career milestone upon his decoration with new rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG). This senior leadership role took him to the Department of Operations at the national police headquarters for four months before his next strategic posting.
Landmark Appointments
In January 2021, Frank Mba was appointed as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force. This high-profile position tasked him with effectively communicating the Force’s activities, shaping its public image and engaging stakeholders.
It was one of the toughest times in the nation with the #EndSARS protests and increased scrutiny of police conduct. However, Frank brought a fresh approach with his media expertise, interactive style and reform agenda. These included the Department of Training and Staff Development between February 2022 to June 2022. He launched several programs to boost officers’ capabilities through world-class learning resources and motivate performance with accelerated promotional opportunities.
Next, from June 2022 to date; Frank has supervised the sensitive Department of Operations responsible for coordinating Intelligence operations alongside other internal security tasks during elections, protests and special events coordination. His commitment to democratic principles and ensuring citizens’ rights are protected even in times of unrest has received commendations.
Despite his increasingly demanding schedule, Frank still devotes time to imparting his wealth of policing experience by participating in workshops, seminars and town hall discussions.
